The Rules - Jarrett

Hello everyone, I decided I would post the rules that we are following for the 30 Date Challenge!
Rule #1: No Peeking! Annie cannot see inside the envelope until right before the date.
The whole idea was a present that has a constant surprise. I wanted to give her a present that she could open right then and would excite her but would continue that process over an extended period.
Rule #2: Annie must tell a few days in advance which envelope she would like to open so I can make preparations for said date.
Rule #3: If for some reason (something serious not because I don’t want to) comes up, we will change the date envelope to another, something we can accomplish with the time allotted without stressing or skipping an integral part.
I am loving this right now. It was so much fun coming up with the dates and writing them all down. I know it will be even more fun actually getting to take her on these dates! We have some really neat stuff up ahead! Living in Myrtle Beach we have some really cool opportunities for different things to do, so stay tuned for alot of fun stuff!
Annie is gonna be out of town for a little while but as soon as she is back, she will be posting to the blog as well so keep a look out for her posts!

Episode 1 is up!

How It All Started - by: Jarrett

Annie and I at Christmas

So, it was getting closer and closer to Christmas and I am trying to decide what I wanted to get Annie for Christmas. It was becoming more and more stressful because I wanted it to be special and something she would enjoy. Just buying her something just wasn’t going to cut it in my book because I wanted it to be memorable. So the hunt began for the perfect present.
I am a musician; I play guitar, piano, bass, and I sing. While preparing to lead music at my church on a sunday night, Annie picked up a friends mandolin and asked me to teach her something. I showed her a few chords and she caught pretty well. She really expressed interest in learning so I decided to get her a mandolin.
I ordered it, the company shipped it to me and it was all great, but it still didn’t accomplish what I want so I went back to the drawing board.
And then it came to me. Because we both are so busy what is the one thing we both lack? Quality time! So how can I give her quality time for Christmas? I first thought about like a gift certificate for something she really wanted to do, but that wasn’t enough. It took me a little and then all of it came at once. What if I make a game out of it? She loves games! I could make different sealed envelopes with the date description on the inside and then when we start our date she can open the envelope and be surprised about where we are going!
So I remember sitting in McDonalds by myself one night with a pad and pen writing down descriptions of dates and before I knew it I had 25 different dates. Many of them were things we have never done before so it will be fun discovering something together.
When she opened her two gifts she was very shocked and was excited about them both. Over time through our youtube, twitter, facebook, and blog you will see how we use them!

The Beginning

Hello, and thank you for reading the very first blog entry of The 30 Date Challenge!

This blog will be a place for me to record my thoughts and experiences throughout The 30 Date Challenge.  I am very excited to share the adventure we are embarking on and letting you join in with us!

First a little history lesson,

My name is Jarrett. I live in a town called Conway, South Carolina and I work in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I am one of very few natives in this tourist town which makes it so rare that I have actually found someone from here as well.

My girlfriend is Annie. Annie is from Myrtle Beach as well and our story starts back in 2007.

I met Annie for the first time while taking pictures for a Homeschool Association Prom that we were both about to attend. We had never met but I knew her sister and we had gone to their house to all meet up and head to the Prom. After that night, I did not see her again for months. My best friend started dating her sister Laura right out of high school so I was always around her family because we enjoyed doing things in larger groups; I was even the best man in her sisters wedding and she was the maid of honor. Our stories intertwined for years until we both happened to be single at the same time in the late spring of 2010. We would meet up and walk around the boardwalk or the bookstore until one day, our paths drifted back apart. Having parted ways, we both grew in to who we needed to be. We both took part in a rendition of the Nutcracker but after it was over we would not see each other again until March of 2011.

We were both attending a wedding of our mutual friends. I remember trying to play it so cool and not act like I still had feelings for her but when we got to the reception we struck up a conversation and ended up spending most of the evening together. We danced and laughed and talked the whole night. By the end of the night I was floating on air.

I had agreed to help her with a dance routine for a College Ministry Program here in Myrtle Beach called Refuge. We were both teaching dance at the time so it didn't seem to out of the ordinary but over time I realized that she still had feelings for me too. So on May 11th, we started dating and grew in to the super couple we are today!

I will be posting another entry about the beginnings of the 30 Date Challenge and the rules to follow but now you know a little about us!
